Running the 400 M eters is an art that must be coined over time. It takes multiple
disciplines that if go unrecognized will most certainly result in mediocrocy and
lackluster performances. The same holds true for the 400 Meter Hurdles with added
elements; ten of them. GP Sports Elite Athletic Program has put together the blueprint
to obtaining substantial successes in either races.
The Perfect Race Strategy For Running The 400 Meters
The art of running the 400 meter is simple if you are taught the correct way to distribute
your speed and strength evenly throughout the race. This requires precise know how,
proper race execution and intelligence. Controlling your emotional intelligence
is critical because if you are erratic in your thinking, you’ll be erratic in your
race implementation. To be successful in this event, you must develop the basic
requirement; speed and efficiency. Without the ability to control that speed within
a rhythmic pattern, you’ll find it difficult to evenly distribute your speed and
strength over the entire 400 meter.

As a Three Time Olympic Medalist, teammate of World Record Holder Michael Johnson and a student of Clyde Hart, we were taught the most effective strategy to running the 400 meters. With the medals we have won at the Olympics and World championships Games, we were never surprised by our performance because we pride ourselves on “Getting It Right The First Time.” We plan, prepare, and execute. Therefore, we expected results.

The start is still important even though it's a 400 meters. Getting a good reaction from the start will set the foundation required getting a good start establishes a pace in the first phase of the race. The sooner you get into your rhythm the less energy is required to build momentum to the next phase.
PHASE II: The Next 40m-
The next 40 meters, maintain the momentum built from the first 20 meters. This means
that you can (and should) drive out as hard as possible to get up to your cruising
pace as quickly as possible. Once you reach your top speed at the 60 meter mark,
switch into relax mode. This is where all pushing or aggressive driving stops. The
phase will set-
PHASE III:60m-
Let the momentum from the first 60 meters take you through next phase which is one of the most essential aspect of your race;
