GP Sports' Three Time Olympic Medalist and World Champion Gregory Haugton was recognized at The United Nations Headquarters and commemorated  for his fifteen years of outstanding athletic performances on and off the track by The Consulate Of Jamaica at a reception of

distinguished guess, friends, and associates.

The January 14th evening started out with a trip to the United Nation Headquarters where Gregory was in attendance to a special reception hosted by the Senegalese President Abdoulaye WADE. The special reception was being held to start the launch of the "Third World Black Art Festival."

At the conclusion of the reception, Gregory met and greeted several other dignitaries and government officials from other countries. Jean-Francis Zinsou Ministre Conseiller (Embasidar du Benin) and Tapper Gordon of the Consulate of Jamaica are just some of the few.

Upon leaving the United Nations Headquarters, Gregory was in attendance at the Consulate of Jamaica at a designated reception in his honor for his fifteen years of athletic achievement. In attendance were Geneive Brown Metzger (Consul General), Tapper Gordon, Bryon Labeach (1952 Jamaican Olympian), Chinese Delegates Teresa Lui and Terri Li,  Dalton Evans (Jamaica National Women's Coach), Dr. Lincoln Coffie M.D., Dr. Winston Malcolm, Sharrye D. Moore, Keisha Edwards, Rachel Amar, and many more.

The evening was filled with reflections of Gregory's accomplishments and an appreciation for representing his sport and country both on and off the track. Several distinguished speakers took to the podium to express their gratitude for Gregory's contributions and how it will be used in the near future to inspire others.

The evening concluded with Gregory accepting this commemoration where he took to the podium and expressed his own appreciation for the recognition in which he stated, "I am extremely thankful and in awe of this acknowledgement. I could not have asked for more."

Upon opening up for questions and comments, Gregory was asked to reflect on a particular race in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he was the third leg of the mile relay. Upon the start of his third leg, his leg got tangled-up with the incoming runner and he fell. However, never letting go of the baton while performing a full cart-wheel and continue running to bring the baton home in third place behind the United States team being lead by Michael Johnson at the time and Great Britain.

Gregory commented by saying, "It all happended so fast, all I knew was that the team did not come all the way to Atlanta to come up empty handed and I was not going to be the one to make that happen."
