The Multiple Sclerosis Society Chapter of New York City is our recipient of "Great
Performance" for the month of August and September - in fact, when we examine the
many objectives they tackle and accomplish, they should recieve this honor for the
12 months of the year. The New York City Chapter provides programs and services for
New York City residents living with MS in the following areas: Education: including
programs for the newly diagnosed, a lending library and Hispanic education programs.
Employment: including advocacy, counseling and vocational rehabilitation referrals.
Family and social support: including children and parent programs, Adult day programs
and self-help groups counseling. Physical Health: including adaptive exercise, sports
and recreation. Professional Education: including Janet Pearce MS Advanced Nurse
Training Program, College and graduate school internships and a Professional Resource
Center. Public Advocacy Crisis Assistance: including Crisis counseling, Equipment
purchase, Home care, Medical transportation, Physical therapy and Respite care.
On October 5, 2008, the New York City Chapter hosted their annual bike ride. There
were over 5000 cyclists and raised much needed funds to continue the exceptional
work they have been doing and more. Team GP Sports Cycling & Fitness is a proud partner
of the New York City Chapter and will continue to be a partner and support this massive
effort of the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.
